Is Anyone Thrown into Hell?
We believe the answer to this question is no.
The concept that people will be tortured in a fiery lake forever if they have not lived correctly can be convincingly refuted.
The most persuasive argument for us personally is that a loving creator would never inflict such pain on any of those considered to be his children, whatever mistakes they may have made.
If you currently think that the Bible supports the idea of hell, then we suggest you check out these books and the other resources on this site.
The concept of hell is against the pattern of creation. This world has many systems that are designed to restore health after suffering damage, deliberate or accidental. Just consider our physical bodies. They have in-built mechanisms to heal themselves after an injury or infection. This process may not work perfectly, but it indicates that the designer intended us to recover from these type of problems rather than continue to suffer from them. It is generally recognised that we learn best from direct experience, so surely a good and loving creator who has enabled us to mostly recover from our mistakes on this earth would provide at least as good an environment in the ages to come.
Hell is disproportionate. How can a punishment of never-ending torment be appropriate for the mistakes we make in a very finite period on this earth?
We have concluded that the concept of hell (eternal conscious torment) cannot be supported from the bible or logical examination of the environment we experience. If you are concerned about the possibility of a future hell, we suggest that you take some time to study this for yourself. We provide a list of books and other resources you might find useful on this site.
